Measuring the app usage taking place in India is a great place to gather information about the direction this market is headed. Compared to 2014 app installs are up 129 percent with the biggest increases in the travel and communication and social categories. Travel app installs are up a whopping 474 percent! The total number of smartphone users in India reached 167.9 million by the end of 2015. That’s a big number, but it only represents 26.3 percent of India’s entire population. That means there’s a huge market just waiting to be tapped.
Interestingly, Apple is not the dominant force in India. In fact, Apple doesn’t even crack the top 5 smartphone brands. Instead, Samsung is the king in India, followed by Cromax, Motorola, Sony, and Lenovo. Android is installed on 92 percent of all smartphones in India. iOS? A meager 5 percent. Indian smartphone users open an installed app an average of five times, which has doubled since 2014. They’re also the country with the highest percentage of conversion rates based on advertising. 25 percent of app installs came from paid advertising in India. Not only should you be getting your apps to India, but you should also be advertising them! Just make sure your app is Android compatible!
