What are the top performing apps in the market this month? If the app has anything to do with video streaming then there’s a solid chance that it will be reaching the top of the charts. Facebook, Hulu, and iQIYI are all managing to find huge success in the mobile market. Here’s a breakdown of the charts.
Hulu has been struggling to make up for lost time against its competitor Netflix. Netflix boasts a much larger subscriber base and has recently shifted its focus to creating its own high quality content. This gave Hulu the opportunity to acquire the rights to Epix’s massive library of film offerings, which had previously been owned by Netflix. This boost in the number of films in the Hulu library has resulted in some big new numbers. Hulu managed to surge to the #8 overall app in the iOS revenue chart and even found itself at #5 in the iOS monthly active user entertainment chart.
If Hulu is #8 on the charts, then who’s ahead of it? iQIYI is #7. Never heard of them? They’re the largest video streaming service in China and looking to continue to expand their offerings. They recently struck a deal with more western movie studios such as Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate, and NBC Universal to acquire the rights to their content. This surge in the Chinese market is showing just how significant streaming content currently is.
Facebook is also having a record year in large part to its videos and video ads. The company recently announced that there are 8 billion videos viewed every single day on its platform. That number in addition to the 1.39 billion users means that Facebook continues to be the biggest thing happening in the mobile world. If you need more evidence, take a look at the top 4 apps in the combined iOS and Google Play charts. The list is: Facebook, WhatsApp Messenger, Facebook Messenger, and instagram. What do all those apps have in common? They’re all owned by Facebook.
It’s always a good idea to keep up to date on the app charts. The results from October make it clear that people are heavily invested in video streaming content.
