Twitter is one of the biggest social networks in the world, but there are still a significant number of people who have never created an account. Twitter is hoping to change that with the introduction of its new, huge feature called Twitter Moments.
Twitter Moments, at its core, is a way to make Twitter easier and more accessible for first-time users. The new feature creates and curates similar tweets to formulate a story, or rather, a conversation in real time. Users will be able to watch events unfold and follow the action with ease. Twitter Moments will show off photos and videos in large, aesthetically-pleasing formats so that people who have never used the service will be able to peruse the content in a natural, approachable way.
In the current Twitter landscape, if a user wants to catch up on what’s happening then they need to be able to translate the complex cultural and technological web of the social network. Hashtags, re-tweets, @mentioning, etc. are all barriers to entry for casual users. In many cases it’s impossible to understand what’s happening without having used Twitter from its early days. Twitter Moments hopes to change all of that.
The landing page for Twitter Moments will function similarly to Snapchat’s Snap Story feature or instagram’s Discover page. The content will be grouped into categories like “sports” and “fashion” and a user need only swipe right or left to see the curated feed of information. The Moments tab will sit right in the middle of Twitter, which is no accident. Twitter is hoping that Moments will become the main page for the social network.
Make no mistake, Twitter Moments will be the biggest change to the social networking platform in its history. Are you ready for the change?
