Kids have been hiding things from their parents since the dawn of time. The Information Age has now made that easier than ever. New apps that hide data and files on smartphones are being widely adopted by teenagers who don’t want their prying parents or peers to see their personal information. Snapchat was initially an app that teenagers flocked to for its ability to erase photos after being viewed, but now that Snapchat is in the mainstream there are other more secretive apps that are filling in. The apps have become increasingly clever, with some apps disguising themselves as calculators but allowing access to hidden files when a password is entered. It’s likely that once parents find out about a hidden app, a new one will pop up to replace it.
