Microsoft is doing something it’s never done before — releasing its own laptop. The Microsoft-built laptop, dubbed the Surface Book, is a true technical powerhouse that’s blazing fast, versatile, and affordable.
Before we delve into the specs, the most important thing you need to know about the new Surface Book is that it doubles as both a laptop and a tablet. The 13.5-inch screen can be easily-detached from the magnesium body so that it becomes a handheld touchscreen. It’s a seamless experience that appears to be the best of both worlds. Insanely portable, the Surface Book boasts a staggering 12 hour battery life. It will also utilize Microsoft’s Surface Pen stylus for increased control over the touchscreen.
The base of the Surface Book is also a perfect second half of a laptop. It has 2 USB 3.0 ports and an SD card slot. The keyboard is firm and responsive with deeper keys for a more dynamic typing experience. The body has a “dynamic fulcrum” hinge that seems to flex as it bends. It gives a superior strength to the stability of the screen when it’s at an angle.
And finally, the Surface Book is lightning fast. It houses Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, an Nvidea GPU, and GDDR5 memory. Microsoft is boasting that the new Surface Book is twice as fast as Apple’s Macbook Pro, which if true, is extremely impressive. The icing on the cake is that the Surface Book will retail for $1,499.
Microsoft is not messing around with its new Surface Book. This is one Microsoft product that could truly set it apart from the competition.
