It’s no secret that Apple has allowed new iOS 9 apps to block mobile ads in the Safari web browser, but a newly released app is allowing users to block ads in native iPhone apps including the new Apple News app. This comes as a shock, since Apple’s entire plan seemed to hinge on the idea that users would be redirected toward apps where money could still be made for advertisers. The app, called Been Choice, allows users to create a VPN profile that blocks ads from being served in native apps. It’s still unclear whether Apple knowingly allowed this app to be released in the App Store (since it does feature Safari ad-blocking, which is allowed), or whether Been Choice managed to slip through the cracks.
