Planned obsolescence has been a consumer grumble for decades, but the problem is becoming exacerbated in this modern era where a 3 year old phone seems archaic. Rapidly-advancing tech and even more rapidly-advancing software updates are now accelerating the problem even further. Apple iPhone 4s owners are now alleging in a class action lawsuit that the iOS9 update has crippled their phones. iPhone 4s users have noticed a sharp decline in speed and usability with the software update and feel that they weren’t properly informed that their devices would take such an efficiency hit. The plaintiffs claim that Apple must have known in advance of the launch that iOS9 would not function properly on an iPhone 4s yet still released the download to iPhone 4s owners anyway. A similar case in 2011 was thrown out by a judge so it’s not likely that the plaintiffs will be satisfied this time, either.
