Cyber-bullying has been a serious problem since the introduction of the Internet. The anonymity and separation that characterizes online interactions is the perfect stomping ground for bullies. One teen, Trisha Prabhu, decided that enough was enough. She chose to fight cyber-bullying by developing an app called ReThink that helps people think twice before sending an offensive message. When installed, ReThink indexes offensive language databases to detect whether a message contains any of the flagged words. If it does then a popup window asks the user whether or not they wish to continue to send the message. It’s a simple app but it’s a great step toward making people reconsider their online behavior.
