The new “Peanuts” movie is coming out soon and 20th Century Fox has found viral marketing success by allowing people to create digital avatars of themselves in the style of the film’s animated characters. Users are then able to share the results of the “Peanutized” versions of themselves on social media. A similar service came out earlier this summer for the film “Straight Outta Compton” that let users add a special film-themed feature to their photographs. It became a social media phenomenon and was a huge boost for the film’s marketing. “Peanuts” is again proving that providing a fun, engaging service for users can be one of the best ways to cheaply market a product online.
