December was a huge month for Apple’s iOS App Store, which makes an examination of the top apps for the month even more intriguing. It’s always a good idea to keep a finger on the pulse of the App Store so that you can gauge the popularity of apps and the trends of the marketplace. Facebook Messenger remained dominant in the number one spot both domestically and globally. The big change this month was that YouTube supplanted Facebook to become the number two app in the US and worldwide. Instagram and Snapchat also saw their positions rise all over the world. When it comes to top revenue, though, the market to be in is streaming media. Spotify held strong at number one, Pandora remained at number two, HBO Now claimed the number three spot worldwide as well as staying in that position domestically.
