The new Apple TV has finally launched, but it seems to be missing one small thing: quality apps. In a competitive market where apps can make or break a platform, it seems strange that the Apple TV is coming up short from its content creators. While it certainly has its fair share of apps, many of them are poorly-designed, riddled with bugs, or simply show no extra attention to detail. Specifically, the NBA app, which has a significant amount of money behind it, should be a paradigm of the modern sports streaming world. Instead it’s a mess. Then you have apps like Sling TV – which is available on many other streaming devices – that do not even have an Apple TV app in the works! It’s unclear whether Apple is fostering a negative environment for app developers or whether app developers simply aren’t showing up to the table. Regardless, Apple TV will need to flesh out its offerings if it wants to become dominant in the market.
