The Apple App Store is making lots of money. By 2021 it’s estimated that the store will be raking in $30 billion in annual revenue. This is great news for app developers, especially when factoring in the calculation that app developers will have been paid out a whopping $140 billion by the end of the forecast period. Currently the massive amount of revenue is being generated by in-app purchases that account for 80% of total revenue. Naturally this means that game companies are at the top of the revenue pile. However, it’s likely that subscription-based content-streaming apps will start generating massive amounts of money soon. Netflix recently added the ability to have users sign-up for subscriptions within the iOS app and this little tweak resulted in Netflix shooting up to the top of the revenue charts. Long story short, it’s a good time to be an app developer, as the money won’t stop flowing anytime soon.
