Two things Apple loves is pushing technology to the limits and secrecy. They’ve combined both of those things in a new secret laboratory in Taiwan that specializes in advanced screen technology. Apple purchased the lab from Qualcomm, a company that is best known for its processors, but this specific facility had been used to test the company’s Mirasol screen technology. This tech uses reflected ambient light to stay visible and does not require the use of a backlight. Apple has also reportedly hired researchers from Qualcomm and other nearby tech companies. Reports also indicate that Apple will be working on new, thinner, brighter, and more energy efficient screen technology. Apple now designs its own processors for its iOS devices, and this push toward screen technology research could mean that they are planning to do the same for their screens.
