Adblock Plus has made its debut in the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store and it’s taking a new approach to blocking advertisements on mobile devices. The original Adblock Plus, which boasts more than 400 million downloads, has been available on desktop computers since 2006. It works by blocking ads on any of your browsers, such as Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. The new app works a bit differently. Instead of being an add-on to existing mobile browsers, Adblock Plus is actually its own mobile web browser called Adblock Browser. This means that to have access to the ad-blocking capabilities it provides you’ll need to do all of your browsing through the app. This also means that Adblock Plus will not be able to block ads within other apps on your devices. Adblock Browser promises faster performance and less battery usage by stopping ads from loading during your mobile browsing experience. The release comes just days before Apple unveils iOS9, which has its own ad-blocking features.
