The Internet of Things (IoT), the idea that all objects should be connected via the Internet, is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality, especially with the announcement that IBM has partnered with ARM to develop IoT specific technologies. A partnership between these companies means that there is a serious investment being made into the IoT. It also means that those investments are likely to pay off sooner rather than later. IBM has an entire platform called the IBM IoT Foundation dedicated to connecting and powering devices. Now any device with an ARM mbed-enabled chip can connect to the IBM IoT Foundation. This integration goes way beyond mobile devices and consumer appliances. The goal is to make cities, hospitals, and financial management smarter. This is extremely good news for the IoT.
